Hi! I’m Matt Hassan, born 최경수 (Choi Kyeong Soo).

In the spring of 2025, I returned to Korea for the first time since being adopted. The experience built a foundation for my Korean identity, not only as an adult adoptee but also as an artist. Previously, I’ve drawn characters, made films, and built miniatures. Often, I wasn’t expressing meaningful feelings or experiences of my own so much as making things that I thought looked good.

In Korea, I experienced amazing people, places, and of course, food. I also brought back traditional Korean art supplies. Since getting back, I’ve used them to process my feelings and capture memories from the trip, one ink painting at a time. I’ve found how healing it can be to have a meaningful place captured in a painting.

And so I’m currently available for commissions of your meaningful places, from both Korea and abroad. If you have a memory from a childhood home, vacation destination, or any other special memory, feel free to email me at matthassanart@gmail.com to start your order. Meanwhile, you can always purchase prints, greeting cards and stickers at my online shop.

I’m looking forward to the opportunity to connect with you through art!

Thanks for reading,
Matt 경수
